About Dennis

Dennis Donnelly has been involved with the development of complementary and Alternative medicine (CAM) on Merseyside since 1976.

He brings together a wealth of experience in the field of physical therapy, body psychotherapy and other allied therapies which offer a unique approach to holistic healthcare. Whilst working at Liverpool John Moores’ University he pioneered teaching and research into CAM, including an innovative Masters degree in Holistic Healthcare.

Since 1989, he has been central to developing integrated healthcare services within Liverpool NHS.

This work has attracted regional and national interest, and helped secure funding for research and evaluation from the Research Council for Complementary Medicine (RCCM), and the Prince of Wales Foundation for Integrated Healthcare (POWFIH). Dennis was awarded a National Health Action Zone (HAZ) Research Fellowship for his work in developing Integrated Healthcare sevices.

He has acted as consultant for other local authorities developing their CAM services, and is an active member of the Alternative and Complementary and Health Research Network (ACHRN) a national group of academics and CAM practitioners involved with developing the evidence base of CAM.

He is taking part in General Osteopathic Council’s work to develop osteopathy in the NHS and promote research in the profession. Together with other local CAM practitioners, he has helped set up a local charity (Liverpool Centre for Complementary Medicine) to promote the use and understanding of CAM locally. Dennis has combined his training in osteopathy, remedial massage, cranio-sacral therapy and polarity therapy with input from international Body work trainers like Meir Schneider, Jack Painter and Babette Rothschild.

He regularly gives workshops to fellow practitioners, contributes to Undergraduate Medical Training at the Liverpool Medical School and has given workshops on musculo-skeletal health to local GP's.He has worked within industry, voluntary sector and local Authorities in developing staff support packages and community self-help ventures alongside a busy holistic practice in Liverpool and Formby.
